Motorola Droid
What’s Right: Droid has a beautiful display. It takes advantage of Android 2.0, including a faster Web browser, better messaging, contact management and best of all great Google Maps integration. It also offers excellent call quality and more talk time than previous Android phones.
What’s Wrong: Music and video capabilities still not up to the competition. Dual-mode functionality for world-roaming would have been nice. And I don’t care for the feel of the keyboard.
The Verdict: Even with a few design quirks and a couple of multimedia issues, the Droid is the fastest and most powerful Google Android device we’ve seen yet. It embraces the Android platform and offers Verizon customers a smartphone that rivals a few of the other touch-screen devices from other manufacturers.

What’s Right :
The LG enV Touch has two beautiful displays, a nice touch-screen interface, and a great QWERTY keyboard. It has aggresive features, such as a 3.2-megapixel camera, EV-DO Rev. A, and a powerful Web browser.
What’s Wrong:
The LG enV Touch’s touch-screen interface could use some refinement, and the Web browser experience is not as smooth as we would like. Visual Voice Mail and corporate e-mail support costs additional monthly fees. The lack of Wi-Fi is disappointing.
The Verdict:
The LG enV Touch’s combination of great design and top-notch features makes it one of the top Verizon Wireless Wireless phones we’ve ever seen.

What’s Right:
The iPhone 3GS finally adds common cell phone features like multimedia messaging, video recording, and voice dialing. It runs faster; its promised battery life is longer; and the multimedia quality continues to shine.
What’s Wrong:
The iPhone 3GS’ call quality shows no improvements and the 3G signal reception remains uneven. We still don’t get Flash Lite, USB transfer and storage, or multitasking.
The Verdict:
The iPhone 3GS doesn’t make the same grand leap that the iPhone 3G made from the first-generation model, but the latest Apple handset is still a compelling upgrade, particularly for first generation iPhone users. The iPhone 3GS is faster and we appreciate the new features and extended battery life, but call quality and 3G reception still need improvement.

The Samsung Rogue has a gorgeous display, a 3.5mm headset jack, a good keyboard, and an array of features that includes a 3-megapixel camera, EV-DO Rev. A, GPS, and a web browser with Flash Lite.
What’s Wrong:
The Samsung Rogue is a tad bulky, and the streaming video quality is poor.
The Verdict:
The Samsung Rogue is an acceptable multimedia touch-screen messaging phone for Verizon Wireless customers.

What’s Right: The Samsung Memoir has a handsome and slim design with a styling that makes it look like a camera. The TouchWiz interface makes navigation a breeze and we love that you can upload your photos directly to online sharing sites. The photo quality is top-notch, and the overall feature set is very impressive. It has great performance as well.
What’s Wrong: The Samsung Memoir lacks Wi-Fi, its Web browser is not the greatest, and the touch-screen interface takes some acclimation. You are limited to preloaded TouchWiz widgets.
The Verdict: If you don’t mind the price, the Samsung Memoir lives up to its promise as a top-notch camera phone.

The Palm Pre
What’s Right: The Palm Pre’s ability to multi-task is unparalleled. This phone features a vibrant display with multitouch functionality as well as a good Web browser and decent multimedia capabilities. Good call quality is very important and The Palm Pre does well in that area. Wireless options include 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS.
What’s Wrong: The Palm Pre keyboard is cramped. Battery life is terrible and the smartphone functions can be sluggish at times. It lacks an expansion slot, video-recording capabilities, doesn’t have an onscreen keyboard, and there is no Flash support. The Pre App Catalog is still in beta with a limited number of titles.
The Verdict: Despite some missing features and performance issues that make it less than ideal for those on-the-go, the Palm Pre offers gadget lovers and consumers a slew of well-integrated features and unparalled multitasking capabilities. The hardware itself could be better, but more importantly, Palm has developed a solid OS that not only rivals the competition but also sets a new standard in the way smartphones handle tasks and manage information.

The good: The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic offers a touch screen and compact design, a 3.2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, WiFi and 3G support.
The bad: The user interface is terrible, the input and navigation methods need a lot of improvement . The Nokia Music Store isn’t available in the United States (as of 05/04/09).
The bottom line: The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic offers an attractive design, but the phone has some catching up to do compared with the competition.

Blackberry Storm
The BlackBerry Storm 9530 is Research In Motion’s first smartphone to do away with a physical keyboard in favor of touch sensitive display. As with other keyboard free devices, such as Apple’s iPhone 3G, the lack of a physical keyboard in the Storm means more in the way of display space and less in the way of tactile feedback.
However, typing on the Storm’s roomy 480 by 360 display isn’t quite the same as tapping away at the iPhone 3G’s glass face. For the Storm, RIM has designed a touch-screen with an innovative twist—the new BlackBerry’s display is built like a one big button, so that pressing on the unit’s software-rendered keys produces tactile feedback that’s reminiscent of a real keypad.
